Overview

Introducing the Lonely Binary SR501 Motion Sensor, the superhero of motion detection! Equipped with advanced PIR technology, this sensor unleashes its powers to sense every move with precision. Say goodbye to boring routines and embrace a world of excitement and automation.

The Lonely Binary HC-SR501 is a passive infrared (PIR) sensor module, commonly used for motion detection applications. Here's a detailed description of its features and functionality:

Boot Time: When you power on this sensor, it typically requires a short period of time, usually around 30 seconds to 1 minute, to initialize. This initialization period allows the sensor to stabilize and adapt to the ambient conditions of the environment where it's installed. During this time, the sensor might give false readings or no readings at all.

Sensor Type: The HC-SR501 is a PIR sensor, which means it detects infrared light radiating from objects in its field of view. It's particularly sensitive to the infrared radiation emitted by humans and animals, making it ideal for motion detection.

Operating Voltage: It typically operates at a voltage range of 5V to 20V, which makes it compatible with a wide range of devices and microcontrollers, including Arduino boards. It cannot work with 3.3V voltage.

Detection Range and Angle: The sensor has a detection range of up to 7 meters (about 23 feet) and a detection angle of up to 120 degrees. This wide range makes it suitable for various applications like home automation, security systems, and occupancy sensing.

Adjustable Sensitivity and Delay Time: The module features two potentiometers that allow for adjustments of the sensitivity and the delay time. Sensitivity adjustment controls how sensitive the sensor is to motion, while the delay time adjustment determines how long the sensor output remains high after detecting motion (from 5 seconds to 5 minutes).

Low Power Consumption: It is designed for low power consumption, which is crucial for battery-operated applications.

Output Jumper and Trigger Modes: The HC-SR501 module includes an output jumper that allows users to select between two different trigger modes.

High Output (Repeat-Trigger Mode): When the jumper is set to High, the sensor operates in repeat-trigger mode. In this mode, the output signal goes high when motion is detected and remains high as long as motion continues to be detected within its field of view. This mode is useful in applications where continuous monitoring of motion is required, such as in security systems or automated lighting where the light needs to stay on as long as there is movement in the area. In repeat-trigger mode, the sensor renews the delay time with each detected motion, keeping the output high as long as motion continues.

Low Output (Single-Trigger Mode): When the jumper is set to Low, the sensor operates in single-trigger mode. In this mode, the output signal goes high upon detecting motion and then goes low after the set delay time, regardless of whether motion continues or not. This mode is suitable for applications where an event needs to be triggered only once per detection, such as in motion-activated alarms or sensors for turning on a device momentarily.

Single-Trigger Mode Blocking time: This refers to the period after the sensor first detects motion and triggers its output, during which it will not respond to further motion. Essentially, this is a "cooldown" time for the sensor between detections of movement. Usually cooldown time is around 3-5 seconds and can be adjusted by onboard resistor. The purpose of this feature is to prevent the sensor from responding too frequently to continuous or minor movements, thereby enhancing efficiency and reliability in its applications.
